Sacramental Guidelines

For the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation

Updated 9/17/2020

The Diocese of Bridgeport requires that children attend a formal religious education program for a minimum of consecutive two years before receiving the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist and three years before receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation (see DOB Sacramental Guidelines 2010 for detailed information).

Children should demonstrate consistent attendance in an on-going program beginning in first grade and continuing beyond eighth grade.

Children must participate in Sacred Heart’s Sacrament Preparation Programs and other events (Masses, retreats, community service) scheduled for each sacrament in addition to their weekly religious education class.

Confirmation

  • Confirmation is received in eighth grade.
  • To be eligible for this sacrament, the student should demonstrate consistent attendance in an on-going program beginning in first grade and continuing to eighth grade.
  • A child in grade 6 and up who has not attended a weekly religious education class is eligible to register for and attend the Confirmation Preparation Program in addition to his/her age appropriate class. THIS PROGRAM WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.
